I picked up Yu-Gi-Oh! Worldwide Edition: Stairway to the Destined on my Game Boy Advance back in 2003. Konami published it, and it was one of several Yu-Gi-Oh! titles that kept the card game going on the handheld. It felt right at home on the GBA, a system packed with RPGs and strategy games where you could easily lose an afternoon.

You control a duelist aiming to climb the worldwide rankings. The main goal is to defeat a series of opponents to earn new cards and improve your deck. You navigate through different locations on a world map, challenging duelists you meet. The game uses the official card game rules, so you summon monsters, set traps, and manage your life points. Building a powerful deck is essential, as you constantly tweak it with cards won from duels. The pacing is methodical; you spend a lot of time testing card combinations and learning opponent strategies. It feels like a persistent, personal project where every victory makes your deck a little sharper.
