About Yu-gi-oh! : Capsule
Yu-Gi-Oh! Capsule Monster Coliseum came out for the Game Boy Color in 2000, developed by Konami. It was part of that wave of early Yu-Gi-Oh! games that tried different things before the card game formula took over completely. This one stood out because it wasn't about building a deck; it was a grid based strategy game, which felt fresh at the time on a handheld.
You control Yugi, moving your monster pieces on a chess like board across various stages. The main goal is to defeat all of your opponent's monsters in each battle. Your monsters are contained in capsules you collect, and you summon them using points that accumulate each turn. Positioning is everything; you attack by moving adjacent to an enemy, and terrain on the board affects your movement and attack range. The game starts simple but the stages get quite difficult, demanding careful planning several moves ahead. It feels like a tense, tactical puzzle where a single misstep can cost you the match.
