About Yoshi's Cookie
Yoshi's Cookie came out for the Game Boy in 1993, developed by TOSE and published by Nintendo. It was one of those many puzzle games that filled the portable's library, a time when simple, repeatable mechanics were key for on the go play. This was Yoshi's second puzzle outing after Yoshi, fitting right in with the era's focus on character driven casual games.
You control the cursor, sliding entire rows or columns of cookies on a grid to match them. The goal is to clear the board by creating lines of identical cookies, which then vanish. Two main mechanics define the play: you can shift a whole line of cookies, pushing one off the grid to make room, and special Yoshi cookies act as wild cards, matching with any flavor. The puzzles start straightforward but the speed and complexity ramp up quickly, demanding you think several moves ahead. It feels like a constant, pleasant scramble to organize the chaos before the screen fills up.
