About Yoshi
Yoshi came out for the Game Boy in 1991, a Nintendo game that arrived when the handheld was full of puzzle games and simpler adventures. It was a different kind of title for the system, a puzzle platformer that felt more deliberate and thoughtful than the quick action games I was used to. It stood out because it wasn't just about running and jumping; it asked you to plan your moves.
You control a Mario-like character navigating single-screen stages. The main goal is to guide a baby Mario to the exit, which you do by eating enemies with Yoshi and turning them into eggs. You can then throw these eggs to hit other enemies or collect fruit. The core mechanics involve this cycle of eating, creating eggs, and aiming your throws to clear a path. The game moves at a steady, puzzle-solving pace, and the difficulty comes from managing the baby Mario, who floats away in a bubble if you take too long, forcing you to retrieve him. It feels like a quiet, focused test of your timing and foresight.
