You move your units on a grid based map, screen by screen, engaging the enemy in tactical battles. The core of the game is the "Union" system; you link your units together before a fight, and their combined strength and abilities determine the outcome. You also manage a single deck of cards for the entire army, which dictates your movement range and special attacks each turn. Your main goal is to survive each map and push forward through the story, which requires careful planning because the game is quite difficult and punishes mistakes.
