I picked up X-Men: The Official Game for the Game Boy Advance back in 2006. It was developed by WayForward Technologies, a studio known for solid handheld titles during that era. This was a time when movie tie-in games were common, and this one landed right alongside the film X-Men: The Last Stand. On the GBA, you got a side-scrolling action experience, which was the standard for portable superhero games then.

You control Wolverine, Nightcrawler, and Iceman across different levels. The main goal is to stop a plot involving the Weapon X program, moving through stages filled with enemies and obstacles. Wolverine's sections are melee focused; you slash with his claws and use a fast healing factor to survive damage. As Nightcrawler, you can teleport short distances to navigate past hazards or ambush foes. Iceman's gameplay shifts to on-rails shooting where you fly and fire ice beams at incoming targets. The pacing is brisk, and some sections, particularly with Nightcrawler's precise teleporting, can be quite challenging. It feels like a straightforward action game that makes good use of each character's distinct abilities.
