World Destruction League: Thunder Tanks came out for the Game Boy Color in 2000, published by The 3DO Company. It was part of that wave of late-era Game Boy Color titles that tried to bring console-style vehicle combat to the small screen. You got a lot of these action games right before the Game Boy Advance arrived, and this one fit right in with its focus on destructive arena battles.

You control a heavily armed tank, moving on a grid-based map viewed from a top-down perspective. Your main goal is to destroy all the enemy tanks in each arena before they do the same to you. Signature mechanics include picking up power-ups scattered around the map to upgrade your weapons and firing different projectile types, like homing missiles, to gain an advantage. The pacing is quick, with enemies that aggressively hunt you down, making the difficulty quite sharp. Navigating the terrain and outmaneuvering opponents in these tight spaces feels surprisingly tactical for a handheld game.
