World Destruction League: Thunder Tanks came out for the Game Boy Color in 2000, published by 3DO. It was part of that late era for the handheld where developers were really pushing what the hardware could do with more complex 3D-style games. You control a heavily armed tank from a top-down perspective, navigating through multi-level arenas. The main objective is to destroy every other tank in the stage before they do the same to you. Signature mechanics include collecting power-ups scattered around the map to upgrade your weapons and armor, and using the environment to your advantage by hiding behind destructible walls. The pacing is fast and the difficulty can be sharp, especially when you are surrounded and have to quickly find a health pickup.
