About World Championship Poker
World Championship Poker came out for the Game Boy Advance in 2004, developed by Climax Group. It was one of several handheld attempts to bring the feel of a poker tournament into your pocket, arriving at a time when the GBA library was full of quick pick-up-and-play titles. This game fit right in, offering a straightforward digital card game without much fuss.
You control a custom poker player, starting with a small bankroll and aiming to win enough money to enter and ultimately win the world championship. The core loop involves moving from table to table, choosing between Texas Hold'em and Omaha, and carefully managing your bets against AI opponents. You can bluff, raise, and fold, trying to read the virtual tells of other players while keeping an eye on your steadily depleting chip stack. The pacing is deliberate, focused on the slow build of a winning hand rather than fast action. It feels like a quiet, thoughtful test of patience against the game's unpredictable AI.
