Wonder Boy is one of those old-school Sega Master System gems that still holds up. You play as Tom-Tom, a little dude in a loincloth who’s gotta rescue his girlfriend Tanya from some big, ugly monster. The levels are bright and colorful, and you’ll be jumping over pits, smashing enemies with your stone axe, and grabbing fruit to keep your health up.

What’s cool is how much weird stuff they packed into this game—you can hop on a skateboard to zip through levels, find hidden bonus areas, and even collect these little doll power-ups that give you extra abilities. The controls are simple but tight, though some of those jumps will still make you sweat. It’s got that classic arcade feel where you’ll die a lot, but you’ll keep coming back because nailing a tough section feels so good.

If you’ve never played it, it’s a solid dose of retro platforming with just enough surprises to keep it interesting.
