The controls are simple; you typically use the D-pad for movement and a button for actions like jumping or building speed. A signature mechanic is the timing-based button presses for gaining a boost at the start of a race or maintaining momentum on a downhill slope. Another is navigating the side-scrolling ski jump, where you have to hold a steady position in the air for maximum distance. The pacing is quick, with each event lasting only a minute or so, but the difficulty can be sharp, especially when perfect timing is required to medal.
