About Wetrix (japan)
Wetrix GB came out in 1998 for the Game Boy Color, published by Ocean Software. It was a puzzle game that felt right at home on the handheld, offering a different kind of challenge compared to the many platformers and RPGs of the time.
You control the game's perspective, dropping terrain blocks onto a flat plane to create valleys and basins. The main objective is to catch falling water droplets and fireballs, preventing them from spilling off the edges. You build up the land to hold the water, and you can use bombs to excavate deeper pools or flatten high ground. The game starts calmly but quickly demands faster decisions as the rain and fire intensify. It feels like a constant, engaging battle against the elements, where a single mistake can lead to a flood.
