I first played Wetrix GB on my Game Boy Color back in 1998. It was developed by Zed Two, and it felt like a clever little puzzle game for the handheld, something different from the typical platformers or RPGs of that time. It didn't try to be a big adventure; it was just a solid, portable challenge you could pick up for a few minutes or get lost in for an hour.

In Wetrix, you control the entire playing field, a flat grid suspended in the sky. Your job is to catch falling blocks of land and water, rotating and placing them to build up terrain and contain the water. The main objective is to prevent the water from spilling off the edges. You build dams and valleys to hold the lakes, and you can use bombs to erase land or create deep pits. The game constantly throws fireballs that evaporate water and earthquakes that shake your landscape apart. The pacing starts calmly but quickly becomes frantic as you juggle these threats. It feels like a constant, satisfying struggle against chaos, trying to keep everything contained just a little bit longer.
