I first played Wacky Races on my Game Boy Color back around 2000. It was developed by Handheld Games and published by Infogrames, a familiar name from that era of licensed cartridges. This was a time when you hoped a game based on a cartoon would capture some of the show's spirit without being a complete mess.

You control one of the show's eccentric drivers, like Dick Dastardly or Penelope Pitstop, racing across a world map. The main goal is to win each stage to unlock the next, moving toward the final race. The racing itself is split between an overhead map where you choose your path and side-view stages where you actually drive. You collect power-ups to attack other racers or defend yourself, and you must manage a limited supply of nitro boosts for sudden speed bursts. The game moves quickly, and the computer opponents are aggressive, making it challenging to stay in first place. It feels like a chaotic scramble from start to finish.
