Vigilante on the Sega Master System is one of those old-school beat 'em ups that feels like it was designed to drain quarters at an arcade—except you can play it at home. You’re basically a lone dude in a leather jacket punching your way through waves of street thugs to rescue your kidnapped girlfriend. Classic 80s setup, right?

The first level throws you right into it—no tutorial, just fists flying. The controls are simple (jump, punch, kick), but the enemies come at you fast, and some of them pull knives or bats. There’s something satisfying about the way your punches connect, though the hit detection can be a little janky by today’s standards. By the second stage, you’re already facing a chainsaw-wielding boss, which feels a bit unfair until you figure out the pattern.

It’s short, tough, and very much a product of its time—but if you’re into retro brawlers, it’s got that raw, arcadey charm. Just don’t expect deep storytelling or fancy combos. You’re here to punch bad guys and maybe hum the repetitive synth soundtrack afterward.
