Twilight: 2000 is a tactical wargame released in 1991 for MS-DOS. Developed by Paragon Software Corporation and published by MicroProse Software, it is based on the tabletop role-playing game of the same name. The game is set in a post-apocalyptic version of Poland in the late 1990s, following a devastating war between NATO and Warsaw Pact forces that has left the landscape scarred by radiation and littered with abandoned military equipment. The player's objective is to oppose the tyrannical Baron Czarny, who seeks to control the ravaged territory.

The player organizes and commands a team of up to twenty mercenary soldiers, each with procedurally generated personalities, skills, and language abilities that influence how they respond to orders. The core progression involves completing missions to undermine the antagonist's power in western Poland. Gameplay alternates between two primary systems. One is turn-based tactical combat, where the player directs up to four units in top-down engagements, requiring careful use of various weapons and equipment. The other is real-time vehicular sequences, where the player controls tanks or other vehicles from a first-person perspective, navigating a large 3D representation of the environment and engaging in direct combat.

These driving and combat sections are presented with a 3D interior view, while the external tactical action uses an overhead map. Both modes demand strategic planning around the capabilities of different vehicles and armaments. The game world features a communication system through which non-player characters can provide information or assistance, adding another layer to mission preparation and execution. The structure involves moving between strategic objectives, managing the squad, and engaging in the hybrid combat that defines the experience.
