I first played Turok Evolution on the Game Boy Advance back in 2002. It was published by Acclaim Entertainment, and it arrived during a time when the handheld was full of ambitious attempts to bring big console-style shooters to a small screen. This was one of those attempts, a first-person adventure set in a primitive world filled with dinosaurs and ancient tribes.

You control Tal'Set, a warrior who must travel through hostile lands to defeat an evil overlord. The main goal is to navigate a series of interconnected levels, fighting enemies and solving environmental puzzles. Your primary tools are a bow and a selection of firearms; you switch between them frequently to deal with different threats. The game is structured screen by screen, with some platforming sections that require careful jumps. The pacing is deliberate, and the difficulty can be unforgiving, especially in later stages where enemies swarm from all directions. It feels like a tense, methodical crawl through a dangerous and unpredictable wilderness.
