I picked up Trollz: Hair Affair! for the Game Boy Advance back in 2006, a time when the handheld was still full of licensed games and bright, simple adventures. Ubisoft published it, and it was based on those Trollz dolls, which felt like a natural fit for the portable's audience. It wasn't trying to be a major release, just another colorful title you'd find in the bargain bin, but it had its own particular charm.

You control one of the five Trollz girls, navigating through side scrolling levels to collect gems and ingredients. The main goal is to progress through various themed locations, gathering everything you need to create new hairstyles and outfits for your character. Signature mechanics include using your character's long, prehensile hair as a whip to swing across gaps and attack enemies, and mixing collected items to unlock new cosmetic options. The pacing is generally relaxed, without the punishing difficulty of some platformers, focusing more on collection and light exploration.
