Total Soccer 2000 on Game Boy Color is one of those old-school soccer games that somehow feels both janky and weirdly satisfying. The pixelated players move in stiff little bursts, but once you get used to the controls, you can pull off some surprisingly smooth passes—or at least as smooth as a GBC can manage.
Matches are quick and chaotic, with that classic "everyone clumps around the ball" AI, but it’s got charm. The colors pop, the crowd noise is just a looped cheer, and there’s something oddly fun about watching your tiny striker boot the ball into a goal the size of a postage stamp. It’s not FIFA, but for a handheld soccer fix in 2000, it did the job.
If you dig retro sports games, this one’s a solid time capsule—just don’t expect tactical depth. You’ll be spamming the shoot button more than you’d like.
