Top Spin 2 was a Game Boy Advance release from 2K Sports that arrived late in the handheld's life. It entered a field where sports simulations on the GBA were often simplified, but this one tried to pack a deeper tennis experience into the small screen.
You control a professional tennis player, aiming to win tournaments and climb the world rankings. The core gameplay involves timing your shots; you hold a button to charge power and release it to hit, with different buttons for flat shots, topspin, and lobs. Positioning your player before the shot is critical, as being out of place results in weak returns. The game moves at a brisk pace, and the difficulty can be sharp, punishing mistimed swings instantly. It feels satisfying to nail a perfectly charged cross-court winner after a long rally.
