I picked up Tony Hawk's Downhill Jam for the Game Boy Advance back in 2006, a time when the handheld was still full of life. Vicarious Visions developed this one, and it was a different take on the usual Tony Hawk formula. Instead of skating in open parks, the game focused on racing down long, steep hills, which felt like a natural experiment for the hardware.

You control a skater, either Tony Hawk or another character, and your main goal is to win races against rivals. The core of the game is building up speed by linking tricks together; performing grinds, manuals, and ollies fills your boost meter, letting you surge ahead. You also have to navigate tight corners and avoid obstacles like traffic and barriers, which requires quick reflexes. The races are fast and can get pretty difficult, especially when you miss a turn and crash. It feels like a constant battle between maintaining your combo for speed and not wiping out on the sharp declines.
