Thunder Blade came out for the Sega Master System, a port of Sega's arcade game. It was one of those titles that tried to capture the feel of a cabinet in your living room, with the hardware pushing what it could do for a 3D-style shooter at the time. You pilot an attack helicopter through several stages, starting with a third-person behind-the-craft view and then switching to a top-down perspective. Your main goal is to destroy all enemy targets in an area before moving on, fighting everything from tanks and jets to gun emplacements. Two key mechanics are managing your helicopter's altitude with a dedicated button to avoid obstacles and ground fire, and using a limited supply of powerful screen-clearing bombs for when you get completely swarmed. The game moves quickly and the difficulty spikes are noticeable, especially when the perspective shifts and the controls feel different. It feels like a constant, frantic scramble to stay in the air and keep firing.
