About The Sims (j)(rising Sun)
I picked up The Sims for Game Boy Advance back in 2003, a portable take on Maxis's life simulation series. It was a time when developers were experimenting with translating complex PC games onto the small screen, and this was one of the attempts to capture that sandbox feeling on the go. The game presented a self-contained world, separate from the open-ended home life of its PC counterpart.
You control a single Sim, guiding them through a suburban neighborhood to uncover a mystery. Your main goal involves exploring the town screen by screen, talking to neighbors, and completing quests to progress the story. Signature mechanics include building your character's skills, like logic or creativity, to solve specific puzzles and managing your Sim's basic needs so they don't get too tired or hungry to continue. The pacing is deliberate, more about daily routines and small discoveries than constant action, and it can be challenging to balance your Sim's well-being with story advancement. It feels like directing a small, personal play where your choices slowly unravel the secrets of the street.
