About The Ripping Friends (e)(patience)
The Ripping Friends for the Game Boy Advance was a 2002 release from Crawfish Interactive and THQ, arriving during a period when licensed platformers were common on the handheld. It was based on the cartoon created by John Kricfalusi, featuring the over the top superhero team.
You control the four Ripping Friends, switching between Crag, Slab, Chunk, and Rip to use their unique abilities across side scrolling levels. The main goal is to stop the villainous F.U.N. organization by fighting through waves of enemies and navigating environmental hazards. Signature mechanics include using each character's specific power, like Rip's stretchy limbs or Chunk's brute strength, to solve simple puzzles and access new areas; you also collect power ups and engage in straightforward boss fights at the end of stages. The pacing is fast and the difficulty can be unforgiving, demanding quick reactions to enemy attacks and precise jumps. Playing it feels like a direct, chaotic translation of the cartoon's hyper masculine energy into a simple beat 'em up format.
