The Little Mermaid - Magic In Two Kingdoms (u)(rising Sun) Game
📅 2006 ✍️ Disney Interactive

Okay, so The Little Mermaid: Magic in Two Kingdoms is one of those GBA games that flew under the radar—probably because it came out late in the system’s life. It’s a side-scroller where you play as Ariel, but don’t expect the Disney movie retread. Instead, you’re bouncing between underwater and land levels, switching forms to solve puzzles and bash enemies with her magic trident.
The controls are floaty (she is a mermaid, after all), but once you get used to it, there’s something weirdly satisfying about the way she flips between swimming and running. The sprite work’s actually pretty nice for a licensed game—lots of bright colors, and the underwater sections have this shimmer effect that makes it feel like you’re really down there.
It’s not super long, but there are hidden shells to find if you’re into that. Just don’t go in expecting a masterpiece—it’s more of a "rainy afternoon with your GBA" kind of game. Fun fact: the Japanese version has slightly different level designs, which is why some retro fans hunt down that version.
