About The Lion King 1 1-2
I first played The Lion King 1 1/2 on my Game Boy Advance back in 2003. It was developed by Vicarious Visions and published by THQ, which put out a lot of licensed games for the handheld. This one stood out because it wasn't just another movie port; it was a platformer that re-told the original Lion King story from Timon and Pumbaa's perspective. On a system filled with sprite-based adventures, it felt right at home.
You control Timon for most of the game, with Pumbaa joining for certain moves. The goal is to guide them through a series of side-scrolling levels, from jungles to familiar locations like the elephant graveyard. You jump across platforms, avoid enemies like hyenas, and use a mix of attacks; Timon does a staff spin, and together they perform a rolling move. You also collect bugs to earn extra lives and find hidden bonus areas. The pacing is brisk, though some sections demand precise timing, especially in later stages. Playing it feels like a lighthearted, cooperative scramble through the world you thought you knew.
