So The Legend of Spyro: A New Beginning on GBA—it’s basically Spyro’s origin story, but with way more dragon drama than the old PS1 games. You start off as this little purple dragon (yep, still purple) who’s supposed to be some big-deal prophecy kid, but of course, everything’s gone sideways. The bad guys—Malefor’s army and this creepy black dragon named Cynder—are wrecking everything, and suddenly you’re thrown into fights way over your head.
At first, it feels like a classic platformer—run, jump, flame-breathe some grunts—but then you realize there’s actual combos and elemental powers to unlock. Fire’s your default, but later you get ice, electricity, even earth attacks. The GBA version’s a bit stripped down compared to consoles, but it’s still got that satisfying "light everything on fire" vibe. And Cynder? She’s way more interesting than your average villain—keeps showing up to mess with you, and you’re never quite sure if she’s just evil or has her own thing going on.
It’s not perfect—the camera’s a little janky, and some levels drag—but if you miss when Spyro had actual stakes and lore, this one’s a solid pick. Just don’t expect it to play like the old collect-a-thons.
