If you've ever jammed on a King of Fighters arcade cabinet, this GBA port actually holds up surprisingly well. The sprites are chunky but full of personality—Iori still flips his hair like a drama queen, and Terry's hat somehow stays glued to his head during all those ridiculous somersaults.
Picking your three-man team feels like assembling a weird superhero squad. Do you go all fireball spam with Kyo and Athena, or just let Chang bulldoze people with his comically oversized chain? (Pro tip: Mai's fans are way more annoying here than they should be.)
The controls take some getting used to—good luck pulling off a super move without grinding your thumb raw on the D-pad. But once it clicks, there's something satisfying about landing a desperation move right as your health bar flashes red. Just don't expect to beat the AI on higher difficulties without memorizing their cheap patterns first.
It's not perfect, but for a pocket-sized KoF fix, this one's got enough flash to make bus rides feel like arcade sessions.
