About Tetris Worlds
I picked up Tetris Worlds for the Game Boy Advance back in 2002, a version published by THQ. It was one of many puzzle games available for the handheld, arriving during a time when portable gaming was becoming a staple for commutes and waiting rooms. This iteration aimed to build on the familiar formula with some new modes and a more structured approach to the classic block-dropping action.
You control the descent of various shaped blocks, rotating and shifting them to create solid horizontal lines that then disappear. The main objective is to clear these lines to prevent the stack from reaching the top of the playfield. Signature mechanics include the new Square Mode, where you must clear blocks to form a specific square shape, and Fusion Mode, which introduces special blocks that merge together. The pacing starts gently but the speed increases steadily, demanding quicker decisions as the levels progress. It feels like a constant, satisfying battle against the rising tide of blocks.
