About Tarzan
I picked up Tarzan for the Game Boy Color back in 1999, a time when the handheld was full of movie tie-ins. This one was published by Activision, and it felt like a solid attempt to bring the jungle adventure to the small screen. It fit right in with the other platformers of that era, nothing too flashy but a decent way to pass the time if you were a fan of the film.
You control Tarzan himself, swinging on vines and climbing trees to navigate the levels. The main goal is to progress through the jungle, rescuing friends and fending off predators like leopards and baboons. The game uses a screen by screen exploration structure; you move from one fixed screen to the next, which keeps the action contained. You also collect items, such as tokens that unlock bonus stages, and engage in simple combat, mostly jumping on enemies or using a slide attack. The pacing is fairly quick, though some jumps require precise timing, and the difficulty can spike in later areas. Playing it feels like a straightforward, energetic dash through a familiar world.
