Okay, so Tales of the World: Narikiri Dungeon 2 is one of those GBA RPGs that somehow flew under the radar, which is a shame because it’s actually a blast. You start by picking two main characters from a bunch of Tales series favorites—I went with Lloyd and Colette first, because nostalgia—and then you’re thrown into this dungeon where you recruit more party members as you go.
The combat’s classic Tales action, but with a twist: you can switch between characters mid-battle, which keeps things chaotic in the best way. The dungeons are randomly generated, so no two runs feel exactly the same, and there’s this weirdly satisfying loop of grinding for better gear and unlocking new costumes (the "Narikiri" part) that give your characters different skills.
It’s not the deepest RPG out there, but the pixel art is charming, the music’s got that early 2000s Tales charm, and it’s perfect for short bursts or long sessions. If you’ve ever wanted a portable Tales game that’s more dungeon crawler than story-heavy, this one’s a solid pick.
