Tak and the Power of Juju on GBA is one of those weird little platformers that somehow sticks with you. You play as Tak, a scrawny kid-turned-shaman who has to save his village from this ridiculous bird god named Tlaloc—who honestly looks like he escaped from a psychedelic cartoon. The levels are bright and full of little details, like villagers running around panicking or weird plants that spit stuff at you.
At first, the controls feel a bit floaty, but once you get used to jumping between vines and dodging traps, it clicks. The puzzles aren’t brain-melters, but some of them make you stop and think, especially when you start unlocking different Juju powers. The humor’s pretty goofy (lots of chicken jokes), but it works because the whole game doesn’t take itself too seriously.
If you’re into early 2000s platformers with personality, this one’s worth dusting off the GBA for. Just watch out for those exploding sheep.
