About Toca World Touring Cars
TOCA World Touring Cars came out for the Game Boy Advance in 2003, developed by Codemasters. It was part of that wave of handheld racing games trying to capture a console feel on a small screen. You got a decent selection of real world touring cars and circuits, which was a solid offering for a GBA cart at the time.
You control a single racing car from an in car perspective, aiming to win a series of championships. The core loop involves qualifying well and then fighting through a pack of aggressive AI drivers in multi lap races. Two mechanics define the experience: a detailed damage model that visually and functionally affects your car after collisions, and a challenging physics system that punishes careless cornering. The races are fast paced and the difficulty is unforgiving; a single mistake can ruin your entire event. It feels like a constant, tense battle for control on tight tracks.
