About Surf's Up (u)(omgba)
Surf's Up came out for the Game Boy Advance in 2007, published by Ubisoft. It was part of that wave of movie tie-in games that were common on the handheld, a straightforward adaptation you could take with you.
You control Cody Maverick, a young penguin surfer, as you compete in various championships. The main goal is to win races and pull off tricks to earn points and unlock new characters and boards. The gameplay is split between racing down waves, where you dodge obstacles and other surfers, and performing aerial tricks by building up speed and hitting ramps. You also navigate simple hub worlds between events to talk to other characters and find secrets. The pacing is generally quick, though some later races can get tricky with their tighter turns. It feels like a light, portable sports game that captures the motion of surfing without too much complexity.
