Dude, Surf's Up on the GBA is way more fun than it has any right to be. You start off wobbling on your board like a total kook, but after a few wipeouts, you get the hang of timing those waves just right. The water animation’s actually pretty slick for a tiny screen—you can see the curl of the wave building before it crashes.
What surprised me was the trick system. At first I just mashed buttons, but then I realized you can chain moves together if you time them with the wave’s momentum. Pull off a perfect cutback as the wave crests, and you’ll hear this cheesy-but-great "Cowabunga!" soundbite. The later levels get brutal though—one wrong move and you’re eating pixels.
It’s got that early 2000s charm where everything’s neon and the soundtrack sounds like a garage band covering Dick Dale. Perfect for short bursts between classes or when you just wanna pretend it’s not raining outside. Definitely a hidden gem if you dig arcade-style sports games.
