I picked up Surf's Up for the Game Boy Advance back in 2007, a time when the handheld was still getting solid licensed games. Ubisoft published it, and it was one of those tie-ins that caught my eye because I enjoyed the movie. It's a side-scrolling platformer that doesn't try to reinvent the wheel, but it captures the film's sunny, beachy vibe pretty well on the small screen.

You control Cody Maverick, a young penguin surfer, guiding him through a series of levels across different locations. The main goal is to win the Big Z Memorial Surf Off by competing in various challenges. You spend most of your time running, jumping across platforms, and surfing down wave sections that automatically scroll the screen. The game mixes these surfing segments with standard platforming where you dodge obstacles and collect shells to unlock new areas. The pacing is generally brisk, though some later levels can get tricky with their timing-based jumps. It feels like a straightforward, cheerful adventure that's easy to pick up for a quick session.
