Okay, so Superman: Countdown to Apokolips on GBA is one of those games where you immediately feel like the Man of Steel—until you realize how weirdly heavy he controls at first. You start off hovering over Metropolis, which looks surprisingly decent for a tiny screen, and then boom, Parademons start causing chaos. The flying takes some getting used to—it’s not as smooth as you’d hope, but once you figure out the timing for heat vision and super punches, it clicks.
Darkseid’s the big bad here, and the levels jump between Earth and Apokolips, which keeps the scenery from getting stale. Some of the platforming bits are clunky (why does Superman struggle with jumping gaps?), but the boss fights are where it shines. That first fight with Kalibak? Way more satisfying than it had any right to be on a handheld.
It’s not perfect, but if you’re into classic Superman vibes and don’t mind some jank, it’s a solid way to kill an afternoon. Just don’t expect Arkham-level polish.
