Superman: Countdown to Apokolips on the GBA is one of those licensed games that actually tries to do something interesting. You're not just flying around Metropolis aimlessly—there's a proper side-scrolling brawler here with some decent punch combos and even a few projectile attacks. The sprites are chunky but clean, and Darkseid’s goons actually put up a fight.
First few minutes? You’ll be smashing through Parademons, tossing them into the background like ragdolls. The controls take a second to click—double-tap to fly, hold down for heat vision—but once they do, it’s weirdly satisfying. Not gonna lie, the platforming bits can be janky, but the boss fights against Apokolips’ heavy hitters make up for it.
If you’re into 2000s-era handheld action, this one’s a solid deep cut. Just don’t expect Arkham-level depth.
