Superman: Countdown to Apokolips on the GBA is one of those early 2000s licensed games that actually tries to be more than just a cash grab. You start off with Superman flying around Metropolis, punching through Parademons and tossing them into buildings—classic comic book chaos. The controls are a little stiff, but once you get used to it, pulling off heat vision blasts and super-speed combos feels pretty satisfying.
It’s a side-scrolling beat ‘em up at heart, but there’s some light platforming and even a few boss fights that’ll test your patience (Darkseid doesn’t mess around). The sprites are chunky but colorful, and the music has that old-school superhero vibe. Not gonna lie, it’s not the deepest game out there, but if you’re a Superman fan, it’s a fun little time capsule from the GBA era.
Just don’t expect Arkham-level depth—this is pure, dumb comic book action.
