Super Robot Taisen R is one of those GBA strategy RPGs that never made it West officially, but if you're into mechs and turn-based battles, it's a hidden gem. You've got a wild mix of original robots and pilots alongside some classic anime series cameos—throwing them all together in grid-based fights where positioning actually matters.
At first, the sheer number of units can feel overwhelming (I definitely spent way too long staring at upgrade menus), but once you start chaining attacks and pulling off flashy combo moves, it clicks. The sprite work still holds up too—those super robot animations have no business being this crisp on a GBA screen.
Fair warning though: the Eurasia version has some quirks, and the fan translation isn't perfect, but it's totally playable if you're cool with occasional jank.
