If you ever wanted to feel like a tactical genius while piloting a giant robot, Super Robot Taisen: OG2 is your GBA cart of choice. The second Original Generation game takes everything that worked in the first one—customizable mechs, crunchy turn-based battles, and that sweet, sweet upgrade grind—and cranks it up.
You start off with a decent squad, but half the fun is tweaking loadouts and figuring out which pilots synergize best. I wasted way too much time swapping parts between units before realizing some mechs just hit harder with certain weapons. The story’s cheesy in that classic mecha anime way, complete with dramatic mid-battle speeches, but it’s weirdly charming once you lean into it.
Battles can get brutal if you rush in—enemies love flanking your weaker units, so positioning matters. And when you finally unlock a new ultimate attack or watch your ace pilot dodge three shots in a row? Pure serotonin. It’s the kind of game where you tell yourself “one more mission” at 2 AM.
OG2 still holds up as one of the best SRW games on the GBA, especially if you like your strategy with extra robot drama.
