Super Robot Taisen A is one of those classic GBA strategy RPGs where you command a squad of mechs from different anime series—think Gundam, Mazinger, and a bunch of others. The first time I booted it up, I spent way too long just staring at the unit selection screen, trying to decide between a flying Gundam or a tanky Getter Robo.
Battles play out on grid maps, and positioning matters more than you’d think. If you send a fragile unit too far ahead, some enemy grunt will absolutely wreck it. The sprite work still holds up, especially when your mechs pull off their flashy special attacks. Just don’t expect deep customization—this is more about tactics than tweaking loadouts.
It’s got that old-school difficulty where you’ll reset a mission after one wrong move, but nailing a perfect turn feels great. The English patch makes it playable, though some dialogue still feels a little rough. If you’re into retro mech games, this one’s a solid time.
