About Super Real Fishing (japan)
Super Real Fishing came out for the Game Boy Color in 1999, published by Victor Interactive Software. It was part of that wave of late 90s portable games that tried to bring a specific hobby to the small screen. You would see a lot of these simulation style titles, and this one was focused entirely on the quiet process of fishing.
You control an angler from a first person perspective, moving screen by screen to select different fishing spots. Your main goal is to catch as many fish as possible, identifying them from a guide to complete your collection. The core mechanics involve choosing your bait and then waiting for a bite; when you get one, a timing based minigame starts where you must reel the fish in without breaking your line. The pacing is deliberately slow, demanding patience as you watch the water for any movement. It feels like a genuine test of your attention, a calm but focused activity condensed for a handheld.
