I picked up Super Puzzle Fighter II for the Game Boy Advance when it came out, a port of the Capcom arcade game. It was a solid puzzle title to have in your pocket during that era, a time when the GBA library was full of arcade conversions and original adventures. The game features those super deformed character sprites from other Capcom fighters, which gives it a distinct look compared to more abstract puzzle games.

You control a cursor to drop colored gems in pairs onto your playfield. The main objective is to clear your own screen by matching gems, but the real goal is to send garbage blocks to your opponent. You build large clusters of gems and then shatter them with a special Crash Gem, which sends the counterattack. The pacing is fast; you are constantly planning your drops while watching the opponent's field, and a single mistake can quickly fill your screen. It feels tense and rewarding when you set up a big chain reaction that overwhelms the other side.
