Super Monkey Ball Jr. on the GBA is basically the same chaotic, tilt-heavy fun as the console versions—just shrunk down for your pockets. You’ve got these monkeys trapped in clear balls, and you’re nudging them through obstacle courses that start simple (a few ramps, no big deal) but quickly turn into nightmare slopes with moving platforms and gaps just wide enough to make you sweat.
The controls take a second to adjust to—tilting with the D-pad feels weird at first, but after a few wipeouts, it clicks. And yeah, you will wipe out. A lot. The later levels get brutal, but there’s something satisfying about finally nailing that one stupid jump after the tenth try. Also, the monkeys scream when they fall, which never stops being funny.
It’s not as smooth as the GameCube original, but for a handheld version, it’s surprisingly solid. Just don’t expect to play it calmly on a bumpy bus ride.
