Super Gals! Kotobuki Ran is one of those weird little Game Boy Color gems based on an anime about Tokyo’s toughest high school girls. You play as Ran, the self-proclaimed "world’s greatest gal," running around Shibuya causing chaos—whether that’s picking fights with rival gals, dodging teachers, or just trying to look cute while doing it. The gameplay’s a mix of simple brawler mechanics and weird minigames, like rhythm-based dance-offs or trying not to spill your drink while power-walking. It’s janky in that early 2000s way, but the sprite work’s surprisingly lively, and the dialogue (if you can read Japanese) has that over-the-top attitude the series is known for. Definitely more fun if you’re already into the anime, but even if you’re not, it’s a fun little time capsule of early 2000s Shibuya culture.
