About Stranded Kids
I first played Stranded Kids on the Game Boy Color back in 1999. It was developed by Culture Brain, a company that made a few other adventure games for the system. This was during a time when portable games were often ambitious, trying to fit big worlds onto a small cartridge, and this one was part of that trend.
You control a boy named Sean who is shipwrecked on a mysterious island. Your main goal is to find a way back home, which involves exploring the island screen by screen, fighting monsters with a sword or a bow, and delving into dungeons to collect pieces of a powerful artifact. The game moves at a deliberate pace; you spend a lot of time cutting grass, breaking rocks, and solving simple puzzles to progress. It can be quite difficult, as enemies respawn when you leave a screen and health is limited. Playing it feels like a slow, methodical puzzle where every new path opened is a small victory.
