Steven Gerrard's Total Soccer 2002 (e)(quartex) Game

Steven Gerrard's Total Soccer 2002 for the GBA is one of those early 2000s footy games that feels rough around the edges but weirdly charming. The controls take a minute to get used to—passing feels stiff at first, but once you adjust, there’s a decent little arcade soccer game here. Graphics are basic, obviously, but the animations for goals and tackles have this janky energy that kind of grows on you.
It’s not exactly FIFA, but if you’re into retro sports games, it’s a fun throwback. You’ll spend most of your time trying to thread through defenders with Gerrard himself, who’s weirdly overpowered compared to the rest of the squad. Just don’t expect much depth beyond quick matches.
Still, for a portable soccer fix from 2002, it gets the job done.
