Okay, so this is basically the Game Boy version of Empire Strikes Back, and it’s exactly what you’d expect from a late ‘90s Star Wars handheld game—chunky pixels, awkward controls, and that weirdly satisfying beep-boop soundtrack. You start off as Luke on Hoth, blasting probe droids with your blaster while trying not to get wrecked by snowtroopers. The hit detection is… questionable, but hey, it’s nostalgic.
Then you hop into an X-wing for the asteroid field section, which is somehow both janky and weirdly fun once you get the hang of it. The sprites are tiny, so half the time you’re squinting at the screen trying to figure out if that’s a TIE fighter or just space dust. And yeah, Darth Vader shows up eventually—looking about as threatening as a pixelated loaf of bread, but still.
It’s not the best Star Wars game out there, but if you’ve got a soft spot for retro handhelds, it’s a fun little time capsule. Just don’t expect it to hold up like the SNES or NES versions.
