About Star Wars (europe)
I first played Star Wars on the Game Boy back in 1992, a release from Beam Software. It was one of many games trying to capture the feel of the movies on the small screen, a common goal for that era of handhelds.
You control Luke Skywalker through a mix of side-scrolling platforming and overhead shooting sections. Your main goal is to rescue Princess Leia and destroy the Death Star. The game is structured screen by screen; you jump across platforms, avoid pits, and shoot Stormtroopers with your blaster. In certain sections, the perspective shifts to an overhead view for TIE Fighter battles. The pacing is deliberate, and the difficulty can be unforgiving, demanding precise jumps and quick reactions. Playing it feels like navigating a condensed, challenging version of the film's key moments.
