About Spongebob's Atlantis Squarepantis
I picked up SpongeBob's Atlantis SquarePantis for the Game Boy Advance back in 2007, a time when licensed platformers were a staple on the handheld. It was published by THQ, a company that put out a lot of games based on cartoons during that period. This one sends you to the lost city of Atlantis, following the plot of the special, which was a nice change from the usual Bikini Bottom settings.
You control SpongeBob and Patrick, switching between them to use their unique abilities. SpongeBob can perform a bubble blow to stun enemies or activate switches, while Patrick uses his strength to move heavy blocks. The main goal is to explore the city screen by screen, solving environmental puzzles and collecting artifact pieces to reassemble the ancient Atlantean amulet. The pacing is straightforward, with simple combat against jellyfish and robots, and the difficulty stays pretty gentle, never getting too frustrating. It feels like a relaxed, colorful trip through the show's world.
